I won’t ask what they’re being chastised for – I’m sure the Mistress Cats always have good reasons for punishment. But (Kandi pointed this out to me) THE MIDDLE MAID ISN’T WEARING HER LACY MAID’S CAP! Shock! Horror! This is a major faux pas! [Kandi: Ooh! Sore botty for that one!]
I am afraid that some maids fear they are caned for the mere amusement of Mistress Cats. However Miss Evans says no maid has actually made a complaint so perhaps it is just a a bit of mindless gossip. Kandi is of course quite correct, the middle maid should be particularly fearful of her punishment.
